July 14, 2005 — Happy Bastille Day

Today is Bastille Day. Thought I’d mention it and talk about my favorite French things. And no, not French fries. I can’t stand those things! As you probably know, I can’t stand Chirac or the way the French government acts. I, of course, am happy that the French people decided not to sign that EU Constitution. But this post is not about politics. Rather it is about the French people. The French have a certain “je ne sais quoi” about them.

I love Renoir & Monet. All over my house you will find prints of their works. My favorites by far are Dance In the City and Mother With Child. I use these on my Yahoo profiles sometimes. I also love Marc Chagall.

I really love French purses ie Etienne Aigner. I used to be a huge Burberry user but Aigner is way more durable! Louis Vuitton rocks too!

Those who know me know that I speak fluent French. I love listening to the French singers like Yves Montand — he even made Barbra Striesand tolerable to watch in On A Clear Day You Can See Forever (but lets not talk politics today.) And of course who could forget les Hommes Francais! Why are French men so good looking?? Jean-Luc 😉 I think this is what Hollywood is missing – that French mystique. And of course, my beloved Jacques Brel singing my song, Madeleine:

I do admit though that Scotsmen like Ewan McGregor make my heart melt… And Sean Connery – beaucoup de swoon! Nothing like a man in a kilt. (Mel in Braveheart) I like the Italian guys too… Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro — SIGH! (Hi Captain Mark.)

Anyway, back to the French… crepe suzette and eclairs. I haven’t found any other French foods I like but man, put a plate of crepes in front of me and I’ll be calling my Weight Watchers sponsor with a sugar high.
